Barking and Dagenham is an Agency-led council.

What is an Agency-led council?

This means that the agency acts on behalf of the childminder and deals directly with the council for anything related to funded hours. The relationship is between Koru Kids and the local council. This means that:

  1. Koru Kids would reach out to the council and get childminders in that borough set-up.

  2. Koru Kids would be set up on the online portal and manage the portal for all childminders operating in that borough.

  3. Koru Kids are responsible for adding funded children that are looked after onto the portal.

  4. All payments are made directly to Koru Kids. We are then responsible for sending that payment to the childminders.

How do I get set up to offer funded hours in Barking and Dagenham?

Koru Kids are already set up with your council and have access to the online portal used to manage funded hours on behalf of our childminders operating in this council. This means that for you to be part of this list, we would only need to inform your council that you would like to be set up for funded hours. Once they receive this request, they will then add your name to the online portal for us to manage.

If you would like to know if you are set up on the online portal, please email us at [email protected] and we will be able to confirm.

15 and 30 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4-year-olds in Barking and Dagenham

Setting up 3 and 4-year olds on the portal is done directly by Koru Kids. Once the details of the child and contract are entered, it is then confirmed by the council and added onto the portal.

When using 30 hours of funding, an 11-digit code is needed from parents, which they get from the government website after confirming their eligibility.

It is a legal requirement for the Local Councils to directly check on the eligibility of children using this type of funding. Once the council verifies the eligibility, they are added by the council onto the portal directly.

To confirm eligibility, the council will need:

  1. Parent full name

  2. Parent Date of Birth

  3. Child's Date of Birth

  4. National Insurance Number

  5. Parent email address and phone number
